Belgium has two commercial airports that routinely compete for the same passenger. Brussels Zaventem (BRU) handles the flag carriers — Brussels Airlines, United, Delta, Lufthansa, Emirates, Qatar Airways — and most of the long-haul traffic. Brussels South Charleroi (CRL), 50 km south at Gosselies, is Ryanair's second-largest European base, with Wizz Air, Pegasus, Corendon, TUI and Air Cairo filling the rest. Low-cost travellers frequently arrive long-haul at Zaventem and connect out through Charleroi — and the cheap public shuttle between them is, frankly, terrible.
The official Flibco shuttle bus connects the two airports via Brussels-Midi or directly — cheap at €24-30 one-way, but departing hourly and taking 2-3 hours including the station changeover. For a tight same-day connection it's a coin flip; for a red-eye Ryanair pre-06:00 departure from CRL, the shuttle doesn't run. The train is worse: BRU → Brussels-Midi → Charleroi-Sud → CRL bus totals around 2h20 on a good day, and every step adds failure modes.

Rue des Frères Wright entrance — the default drop-off for Ryanair, Wizz Air, Pegasus, Corendon, TUI and Brussels South's other carriers. Five-minute kerbside window per vehicle, luggage carried to the terminal automatic doors.
The long-term parking bus loop serves the Priority Boarding queue directly. Useful for peak-time Ryanair scrums when the main kerb is gridlocked. Adds three minutes to the transfer, saves fifteen at the queue.
Ibis Charleroi Airport on Chaussée de Charleroi, Mercure Charleroi Airport on Rue du Paradis. Overnight-arrival shuttle lands you at reception; pre-dawn pickup returns you to the terminal with no taxi gamble.
The Abelag / JetCenter / Flying Group general-aviation apron is south of the main terminal, approached via Chaussée de Jumet. Business-aviation pickups and drop-offs handled discretely.
Charleroi-Aéroport station (BSCA rail link) for onward SNCB services, Nivelles town for a detour stop, Waterloo Lion's Mound as a tourist detour option. Ask at booking for multi-stop.

From BRU we join the A201 south onto the Brussels Ring (R0), following the ring clockwise past the Leonardo exchange, Hondenberg and Drogenbos. At the Ruisbroek junction we pick up the E19 southbound briefly before branching onto the A54 at Nivelles. The A54 runs south-east past Seneffe and La Louvière-Nord before the Charleroi ring approach — we exit at Gosselies (exit 15), then the Rue des Frères Wright link road delivers us directly to the CRL terminal kerb.
Total distance: 75 km. Transit time: 55-65 minutes off-peak. The R0 section between Halle and Ruisbroek is the main friction point; on Friday evenings we sometimes divert via the E411 and N5, a longer route with consistently free-flow traffic that still hits CRL inside the 70-minute mark.
Neither Brussels Ring nor A54 imposes emission-zone restrictions beyond standard LEZ requirements inside Brussels itself. Our Euro 6 and hybrid vehicles are cleared for all routes and all hours. No detours, no fines, no surprises.
